Barceló Bávaro Beach is a serene adults-only all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. When booking your stay, you’ll see an option to upgrade to “Premium Level”—but is it really worth the extra cost?

As a frequent resort reviewer, I recently stayed in a Premium Level room and here’s what I discovered. Below are five specific scenarios where it’s absolutely worth the upgrade—and a couple where it might not be.

1. You Want a Prime Oceanfront View

One of the biggest advantages of Premium Level is room location. If you're dreaming of waking up to a full oceanfront view, Premium Level gives you access to some of the best spots in the resort. For me, that view made the upgrade 100% worth it.

2. You Prefer À la Carte Dining Over Buffets

Barceló Bávaro Beach requires dinner reservations for à la carte restaurants—and there are only two on the adults-only side. Premium guests have better access to all restaurants, including those on the family-friendly side, plus help with reservations from the Premium Lounge concierge.

If you're not into buffets and want a proper sit-down meal each night, Premium makes that much easier.

3. You Plan to Use the Spa Regularly

Premium Level includes daily access to the hydrotherapy circuit at the spa—normally an extra cost. This includes saunas, a hot whirlpool (the only one on site!), cold plunge, steam rooms, and hydrotherapy pools with ocean views. If relaxation is your goal, this perk is a must.

4. You Like the Convenience of Room Service

At Barceló, room service usually incurs a charge per item. But with Premium Level, it’s fully included. If you like to enjoy breakfast in bed or late-night snacks without added fees, this alone could justify the upgrade.

5. You're Traveling with Kids and Want Water Park Access

Even though Barceló Bávaro Beach is adults-only, Premium guests get free access to the Pirates Water Park located on the family side. If you're staying at the family resort, this perk could be especially valuable for kids who love wave pools and slides.

When It Might Not Be Worth It

  • If you're fine with a garden-view room

  • If you prefer buffet dining and don’t use the spa or room service

  • If you chose an adults-only stay to avoid the family areas (Premium breakfast and lunch are on the family side)

Final Thoughts

Whether Premium Level is worth it depends on your priorities. If ocean views, spa time, and exclusive dining experiences matter most to you, then the upgrade pays for itself in value and convenience.
